This is Maki
This is Maki is a 30-minute documentary film about one of my former film students, Maki Yi, who I taught at the University of Regina. Now living in Vancouver, Maki was back in Regina to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from the U of R’s Theatre Department. While back in Regina, we arranged to meet and during our conversation we came up with the idea to make a film. As an immigrant moving to Regina from Korea, Maki faced many formidable challenges. I attempted to represent her incredible journey through a combination of interviews and personal footage. This film came together extremely quickly, including the editing. This is Maki has been selected to screen at numerous international film festivals.
