Light Unleashed - The Photography of Thelma Pepper was the first of many films I have made about my amazing mother. The film features intimate interviews with Thelma, discussing her perspectives on life, growing up, learning, and her feelings about moving from Nova Scotia to Saskatchewan with a young family. Thelma also speaks about the importance of discovering photography and art later in life at age 60. The film includes images of Thelma in rural Saskatchewan and special footage of her taking pictures at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon. The film raises questions about why my mother decided to begin a career in portrait and landscape photography at such an older age, and how this artistic desire relates to her personal philosophy of life. The film won Best Experimental Film at the Saskatchewan Motion Picture Industry Association (Showcase) awards and was broadcast on SCN in Saskatchewan.
