It's a Conscious Thing is a documentary about classical pianist John Robertson from Calgary. After meeting John and listening to him play, Gordon became fascinated by his unique character and special talents. The film allows John to talk openly about his life and music, including the special composers who have influenced him, such as Bach and Mozart. John's unique musical gift sometimes comes at a cost, as he perceives the world slightly differently from others. He speaks openly about his personal challenges with mental health and how his personal disposition relates to creativity and identity. The film pays special attention to the use of the color blue.
