Discarnate: McLuhan's Wake took me over five years to make, but undoubtedly it is one of my most important and thought-provoking films. This experimental documentary focuses on Canadian media theorist Marshall McLuhan and his ideas on identifying and studying how different forms of communication shape our society. The film features academic interviews, re-enactments of McLuhan (featuring Regina actor George Grassick), and contemporary footage of our technologically dominant culture - all attempting to exemplify McLuhan's famous phrase, "the medium is the message." By raising awareness of how technology affects everything from personal identity to our concept of consciousness itself, the film serves as a compelling reminder of the impact technology has on our world. The film has been selected to screen at multiple international film festivals and has won numerous awards in the Best Experimental Film category.
